Collective Learning Group

Vision:

Since our inception in 2017, HMAG has provided a space for residents to develop their own local solutions to the housing crisis. Our monthly ‘Housing System’ Learning Circle facilitates informed and constructive community conversations that are action-focused.

Guiding Priorities:

  • Create a space for community members to collectively learn more about housing issues alongside fellow residents.
  • Connect with other residents who share concerns about local housing issues and are committed to taking action.
  • Use knowledge to identify and develop local solutions to the housing crisis.
  • Use knowledge to inform HMAG’s housing policies and submissions.

Learning Together:

The sessions are facilitated by Dr Michael Darcy, one of Australia’s preeminent housing scholars. Throughout 2022-24, topics have included the impact of AirBnb, rent control, including freezes and caps, the relationship between the planning system and housing affordability, and recent housing policy announcements at both federal and state levels. View recordings of some of our past sessions here.

Future Sessions:

Our next session will continue our exploration of community wealth building and place based capital, with an eye to developing a local initiative in that space. See our Get Involved page for info on the upcoming learning series.
