Co-op Housing: Mark Smyth, General Manager of Banana Coast Union, shares insights from his international study tour on cooperative housing in Copenhagen, Vienna, and Zurich. Organized by the Business Council of Co-ops and Mutuals (BCCM), this tour explored solutions to Australia’s housing affordability crisis.
Airbnb & Housing: Recognising Airbnb as a divisive issue, we collaborated with data activist Murray Cox (Inside Airbnb) to analyse its impact on the Mid-North Coast. Our August 2023 session featured Murray and housing expert Prof. Peter Phibbs, identifying knowledge gaps and policy solutions. A dedicated working group of housing researchers now continues this work.
Strategic Planning & Climate Readiness: Since our formation in 2017, HMAG has engaged with Bellingen Shire Council’s Local Housing Strategy (LHS). In November 2022, Kayla Clanchy (NSW Shelter) joined us to discuss how Bellingen can prepare for climate-driven disasters and insurance challenges.
