Needs-Mapping Surveys:
Our community’s voice has always guided the work of the Housing Matters Action Group Inc (HMAG). Over the years, the insights you’ve shared through our local housing surveys have directly shaped our priorities and delivered tangible outcomes – proving that good data leads to real change.
When our first Needs Mapping Survey in 2018 revealed that older, single women were one of the most vulnerable groups locally – often facing housing insecurity, displacement, or homelessness – HMAG used that evidence to advocate for more affordable, secure housing for this group. That work helped pave the way for the Watson Place development, which now provides 23 units of affordable housing for women over 55 at risk of homelessness.
We’re now inviting you to take part in two new surveys that will help guide the next phase of our community-led housing work through the Next Horizon Initiative (NHI), supported by the Siddle Family Foundation (SFF). The findings will inform HMAG’s 10-year strategic plan, which will continue to be shaped by ongoing community consultation to ensure our focus stays firmly on local needs and aspirations.
A short, two-minute snapshot designed to capture how housing pressures are affecting our community right now.
Building on our in-depth community surveys from 2018-19 and 2022-23, this new survey explores how our housing system has changed and what’s most needed today. Past surveys helped HMAG:
